Safiery Jupiter B – 12V 3000W, 50A DC-DC, 400Ah lithium12V canopy power pack with two 217Ah semi-solid-state lithium batteries

Overview

This Jupiter B arrives as a finished 12V system with its battery bank: two Safiery Solid State Lithium 12V 217Ah batteries, 5,554Wh in total, wired to a Victron MultiPlus-II 12/3000/120-32 inverter/charger, an Orion XS 50A DC-DC charger, a SmartSolar MPPT 100/20 and a Cerbo GX MK2 with GX Touch 50. The batteries report over CAN, so the Victron system takes its charge limits from the BMS. Twelve STAR-Light channels switch the canopy loads from the SP8 keypad.

What is inside

Jupiter B brings the whole 12V power system of a canopy or van into one upright, pre-wired case. At its centre is a Victron MultiPlus-II 12/3000/120-32 inverter/charger with a 32A transfer switch, fed from a 15A AC inlet. Around it Safiery fits an Orion XS 12/12-50A DC-DC charger, a SmartSolar MPPT 100/20, a Cerbo GX MK2 with GX Touch 50 screen, a SmartShunt 500A battery monitor and a Smart BatteryProtect 65A for load disconnection.

The pack is sold empty, ready for an existing service battery, or with two Safiery Solid State Lithium 12V 217Ah batteries of 2,777Wh each, supplied with RS485 data cable and connecting straps. With a CAN BMS battery the built-in DVCC function lets the battery set charge voltage and current, and charging stops automatically at high or low cell voltage or at low temperature.

Charging from alternator, sun and mains

The Orion XS keeps the starter and service batteries separate and is designed for Euro 5 and Euro 6 smart alternators. Engine shutdown detection lets it charge only while the alternator supplies power, so no ignition wire or extra sensor is required. Charging runs in four stages, bulk, absorption, float and storage, with eight preset battery profiles, current adjustable in 0.1A steps, low-temperature shutdown and input-voltage lock-out.

Solar panels plug into the rear Anderson connectors and feed the SmartSolar MPPT, while campsite or workshop mains reach the MultiPlus-II through the AC inlet. Safiery points out that the mains charger will not start when the supply has an earth fault or incorrect wiring, a frequent situation on farm stays, and that the inverter does not run while it is set to charge only.

Switching and loads

Twelve 10A channels of the STAR-Light V2 controller are operated from an IP67 STAR-Switch SP8 keypad with eight backlit, custom-labelled buttons: a press switches, holding dims and a double press selects the second colour of a dual-colour LED. The manual recommends wiring fridges straight to the dedicated Anderson outlets rather than to a switched channel, and driving light bars and compressors through a relay.

Monitoring and settings

Each Victron device is configured with VictronConnect over Bluetooth and shown on the GX Touch 50 through the Cerbo GX MK2. With an internet connection the system appears on the VRM portal, which also allows remote settings and firmware updates. The GX reads Bluetooth Ruuvi temperature sensors and Safiery STAR-Tank radar tank sensors, enabled under Settings, I/O, Bluetooth sensors, so tanks and temperatures share the same screen.
