Overview

The MultiPlus 48/20k/250-100 is Victron's most powerful single-phase MultiPlus: 20kW continuous at 25°C, 25kW for one minute, a 250A charger and a 100A transfer switch, with up to 187A available at the output when PowerAssist adds battery power to the grid supply. It weighs 80kg and measures 422×616×357mm. It is aimed at large off-grid homes, superyachts, professional vehicles and grid-parallel ESS on 48V, with three units for a three-phase supply. Victron recommends a 450–1400Ah battery bank and an 800A DC fuse.

How it works

The MultiPlus 48/20k/250-100 is a single-phase inverter/charger for 48V batteries with 20kW continuous output at 25°C, 18kW at 40°C and 14kW at 65°C, 21kW for five hours from a cold start and 25kW for one minute. Its charger delivers up to 250A (240A at 40°C) with an adaptive four-stage algorithm.

The 100A transfer switch passes grid or generator power to the loads, and PowerAssist can add up to 20kW (87A) from the battery, so the output can supply up to 187A. AC-out-2 carries up to 50A and is live only with AC input.

In a grid-parallel ESS the unit uses an external AC current sensor (100A, sold separately) or an energy meter to maximise self-consumption and, if required, prevent feed-in, while critical loads stay on the backed-up output. Grid-code compliance is selected in VEConfigure and locked with a password; where a local grid code is not supported, an external certified interface device is required. PV inverters on the output and MPPT solar chargers on the DC side can both be used.

Installation and compatibility

The unit weighs 80kg and measures 422×616×357mm, so it needs a solid wall such as concrete or masonry; a hook and two holes are provided. Install it in a dry, ventilated place close to the battery. Victron recommends a 450–1400Ah bank, an 800A DC fuse and 2× 120mm² cables per pole up to 5m (2× 185mm² up to 10m).

The AC input needs a breaker of 100A or less. In hybrid generator enclosures shock mounts are mandatory. Victron Lithium Battery Smart needs a VE.Bus BMS V2 or Lynx Smart BMS; for other lithium batteries Victron's compatibility list applies. The temperature sensor is sold separately for 48V models.

Monitoring and settings

Configuration uses VEConfigure or VictronConnect with an MK3-USB interface, or Bluetooth with the optional VE.Bus Smart dongle; a Digital Multi Control panel sets the input current limit. A Cerbo GX or Ekrano GX connects the system to the VRM portal for remote monitoring and settings. Three units can be configured for three-phase output; for parallel operation Victron recommends an external AC transfer switch. A programmable relay and two general-purpose ports are available.
