Overview

The Quattro-II 24/5000/120-50/50 is a 24V inverter/charger with two AC inputs of 50A each, delivering 5000VA (4000W) continuously at 25°C and 9000W peak, with a 120A charger and 96% maximum efficiency. A 4A output charges a starter battery and the temperature sensor is included. Victron publishes example system drawings for it, including a three-phase 24V system with lithium batteries and a generator. Victron recommends 400–1400Ah of battery with a 400A DC fuse and two 50mm² cables per pole up to 5m. It weighs 31kg (607×329×149mm).

  • 24/5000/120-50 and 48/5000/70-50 models
  • Two AC inputs of 50A, AC-in-1 has priority
  • 5000VA continuous, 9000W peak, 96% efficiency
  • ESS feed-in with country grid code settings
  • Two programmable I/O ports and a programmable relay
  • Up to six units in parallel, three-phase capable

How it works

Victron describes the Quattro-II as a Quattro with ESS functionality. Two independent sources, for example a generator on AC-in-1 and the grid or shore supply on AC-in-2, can be connected; the unit uses the live one and gives priority to AC-in-1. If both sources fail, the inverter supplies the loads on AC-out-1 within 20ms. AC-out-2 is disconnected in battery mode and reconnected about two minutes after AC returns, so loads such as a water heater never discharge the battery.

Each input can be given its own current limit. PowerControl then charges only with spare current, and PowerAssist adds battery power when the loads need more than the input supplies: with a 50A input plus 21A from the inverter, the output can deliver up to 71A. In grid-parallel systems an external current sensor enables these functions and self-consumption control. For feed-in, the country grid code is selected in VEConfigure and then password-protected.

Installation and compatibility

Wall-mount the unit in a dry, ventilated room close to the batteries. Each AC input needs a fuse or circuit breaker of 50A or less. Victron recommends 400–1400Ah with a 400A DC fuse for the 24V model and 200–800Ah with a 200A fuse for the 48V model. The unit may not start with AC present only on AC-in-2 if the battery is 10% or more below nominal; connecting AC-in-1 or recharging solves this. Victron Lithium Smart batteries need a VE.Bus BMS V2 or Lynx Smart BMS.

Parallel systems and monitoring

Up to six units can be paralleled, and three units, or three sets of paralleled units, form a three-phase system of up to 72kW / 90kVA. Settings are made with VEConfigure through an MK3-USB interface, or in VictronConnect with a VE.Bus Smart dongle; a Cerbo GX or Ekrano GX adds VRM monitoring and ESS control. Two programmable I/O ports can communicate with a lithium BMS. Victron publishes grid-code certificates, such as EN 50549-10, VDE-AR-N 4105, C10/11 and TOR Erzeuger Typ A, for the 48V model.

Questions and answers

How does the Quattro-II differ from the Quattro 5kVA?

Victron presents the Quattro-II as a Quattro with ESS functionality. Its two AC inputs are rated 50A each, while the Quattro 5kVA models have two 100A inputs.

Which AC input has priority?

AC-in-1. When voltage is present on both inputs the unit selects AC-in-1, where a generator is normally connected; the grid or shore supply usually goes to AC-in-2.

Is the Quattro-II certified for grid feed-in?

Victron publishes ESS certificates for the Quattro-II 48/5000/70-50/50, including EN 50549-10, VDE-AR-N 4105 (NA protection), C10/11, C10/26, TOR Erzeuger Typ A, TR 3.3.1, UNE 206007 and UTE C15-712-1. No grid-code certificates are listed for the 24V model.

Is a battery temperature sensor included?

According to the manual, the sensor is not supplied with 48V models and can be ordered separately as ASS000001000.
