Overview

The S6-EH3P50K-H is the largest model of the series: 50kW output, four 40A MPP trackers with two strings each and two 70A battery ports for 150–800V batteries. Solis recommends up to 100kW of PV, of which 96kW is usable, and gives 55kW of battery power with 35kW per port. Backup switching takes under 10ms, and six units in parallel reach 300kW for larger commercial storage.

How it works

The S6-EH3P(30-50)K-H is a transformerless three-phase hybrid inverter for commercial PV storage. It has a PV input, two independently controlled high-voltage battery ports, a grid port, a backup port and a smart port. The battery ports each handle up to 70A over a 150–800V range, and they can be joined for 140A on a single battery, so one or two battery systems can be connected.

The 30kW model has three MPP trackers and the 40kW and 50kW models four, each tracker taking two strings with 40A per tracker and 20A per string, which suits modules with 182mm and 210mm cells. Operating modes include self-use, feed-in priority, off-grid, peak shaving on grid or generator, and up to six time-of-use charge and discharge windows.

Backup, generator and AC coupling

The backup port switches over in under 10ms and delivers 1.6 times rated power for 2 seconds, with up to 100% imbalance between phases. Solis gives limits for loads on the backup and smart ports: residual-current-protected loads must not exceed 60% of rated power and peak inrush current during load switching must stay within twice rated current.

The smart port can be set for a generator, with automatic on/off control and peak shaving, for an existing grid-tied PV inverter in AC-coupled mode, or for smart loads. Generator input power is equal to the inverter rating. Solis recommends generators between 10kW and 50kW, as the smart port takes at most 50kW of active power, and the phase sequence must match the inverter or the generator will not start.

Installation and compatibility

The inverter weighs 73kg, is fan-cooled and needs at least 500mm between inverters or other objects and 1000mm from the bottom of the unit to the ground. Solis suggests external four-pole breakers of 160A on the grid port and 80A on the backup and smart ports, and an 80A breaker per battery. Three 300A/5A CTs are supplied; an Eastron SDM630MCT V2 meter is optional.

Approved batteries are listed in the Solis battery matching list for the 50kW class, including BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS/HVM and Battery-Max Lite, Dyness Tower and Tower Pro, and SolisStorage high-voltage systems. In Italy, CEI 0-21 certificates are published with Dyness HV Tower/Tower Pro and WECO 5K3-XP batteries.

Monitoring and grid codes

Commissioning uses the 7in LCD display or Bluetooth with the SolisCloud app; Ethernet is built in and an S2-WL-ST Wi-Fi stick is in the box, with cellular or LAN loggers as options. Settings and firmware can be changed remotely. Listed grid codes include CEI 0-21, VDE-AR-N 4105/VDE V 0124, EN 50549-1/-10, C10/11, TOR, G99 and NTS 631.
