Overview

The Axpert VM III-5000-48 is the 5kW, 48V model of Voltronic Power's third-generation VM off-grid series. One MPPT tracker accepts up to 5,000W of PV with a 500V open-circuit limit and a 120–450V operating range, and the unit charges the battery at up to 100A from solar and mains. Surge power is 10,000VA. The LCD panel detaches for remote mounting up to 20m away, Bluetooth links the unit to the WatchPower app, and a reserved port allows BMS communication over RS485, CAN-bus or RS232.

How it works

Axpert VM III units combine a 230VAC pure sine inverter, an MPPT solar charger and a mains or generator charger in a compact wall-mounted case. The series is the third VM generation and comes in 1.5kVA, 3kVA and 5kVA ratings. From the LCD the installer sets the charging current, the output source priority and the charger source priority, and the inverter can keep the loads powered from PV or the grid when no battery is connected.

Key features

The 3000-24 and 5000-48 models accept PV strings up to 500V open-circuit with an MPPT window of 120–450V, for 4,000W and 5,000W of PV respectively; the 1500-24 is limited to 400V and 2,000W. Surge power is twice the rating (6,000VA and 10,000VA), and peak efficiency is 90–93%. A built-in battery equalisation function helps remove sulphation, and the cooling fan can be replaced without returning the unit.

Installation and compatibility

The AC input accepts utility mains or a generator, with a selectable 170–280VAC range for computers or 90–280VAC for household appliances; transfer time is 15ms or 20ms accordingly. Operating range is -10…+50°C at 5–95% humidity, non-condensing. A communication port is reserved for battery BMS integration over RS485, CAN-bus or RS232; Voltronic refers buyers to its sales team for the supported batteries rather than publishing a list.

Monitoring and settings

The LCD control module detaches from the inverter and can be installed as a remote panel up to 20m away, where the settings and status stay within reach. Integrated Bluetooth connects to the WatchPower app on Android within about 6–7m in open space. USB with On-the-Go supports data upload and download, and RS232, RS485 and a dry contact complete the interfaces.
