Overview

The Tigo TS4-X-O is the full-function unit of the TS4-X range: it optimises, monitors and shuts down one PV module rated up to 800W, with 20A operating and 25A short-circuit current over a 12–80V input range. That makes it suited to the latest high-power, high-current modules on shaded or mixed-orientation roofs, connected to almost any string inverter. The MC4 versions are IEC-certified to 1000V system voltage; a Tigo CCA and TAP are required.

How it works

A TS4-X unit clips onto the frame of one PV module and sits between the module's junction box and the string. Its short input leads go to the module and its longer output leads to the neighbouring unit, so the string is built from TS4 to TS4 and then runs to an ordinary string inverter. Tigo states compatibility with thousands of inverter models from more than 50 brands.

Two versions share the same hardware rating. The TS4-X-O adds impedance-matching optimisation, recovering energy lost to partial shade, soiling or mismatch, plus monitoring and rapid shutdown. The TS4-X-S provides only module-level monitoring and rapid shutdown, for systems where shutdown and visibility are the requirement and shading is not.

Both models handle modules up to 800W with 20A operating and 25A short-circuit current over a 12–80V input range, which covers the latest high-power, high-current modules. Maximum efficiency is 99.6%, the recommended string fuse is 30A, and the IP68 housing measures 139.7×138.4×22.9mm and weighs 520g. Shutdown brings controlled conductors within 30 seconds to 30V or less, and the units are UL 1741 PVRSE certified.

Installation and compatibility

Fit the unit to the upper part of the module frame with the cable glands pointing down or sideways and 12.7mm between unit and module glass; on frameless modules bolt it to the rail with M8 bolts at 10.2Nm, with no extra earthing required. Always connect the short input leads to the module before linking output leads to the neighbouring unit, otherwise the device can be damaged.

Monitoring and rapid shutdown need a Cloud Connect Advanced (CCA) and at least one Tigo Access Point (TAP). One TAP serves up to 300 units, placed centrally within 10m of the nearest unit and 35m of the farthest; one CCA handles up to 7 TAPs and 900 units. For shutdown compliance the CCA must sit on the inverter's AC branch, so switching the inverter off also cuts its power. An RSS Transmitter can be added for multi-factor rapid shutdown.

Monitoring and settings

Systems are commissioned with the Tigo Energy Intelligence (EI) app, where the installer adds the CCA, strings, modules and inverters and places each unit on a layout using the barcode stickers peeled off during installation. Owners and installers then see production per module in the EI app and EI portal, and rapid shutdown can be triggered by switching off the CCA and inverter or by the designated initiator.
