Overview

The SUN2000-600W-PA0, also listed as MERC-600W-PA0, is Huawei's module optimiser for residential inverters. It accepts PV modules of up to 720W with 16A maximum input current and 24A short-circuit current, so it fits large-format modules beyond the 14.5A limit of the SUN2000-600W-P. MPPT runs from 10V to 80V, maximum efficiency is 99.5% and the standby output is 1V. The 0.65kg IP68 unit has a 0.1m input lead and a 2.2m (+) output lead with Staubli MC4 connectors.

How it works

The SUN2000-600W-PA0, also designated MERC-600W-PA0 by Huawei, is a DC/DC optimiser mounted behind each PV module. It tracks the module's maximum power point between 10V and 80V and accepts modules of up to 720W with 16A maximum input current and 24A short-circuit current, covering large-format modules that exceed the 14.5A limit of the SUN2000-600W-P. Output is limited to 80V and 16A, and a failed optimiser is bypassed.

In standby each optimiser outputs 1V, so a string of N optimisers measures about N volts before the inverter starts, which makes polarity and connection checks simple. Data travel to the inverter by MBUS over the DC cables. The datasheet lists IEC 62109-1 class II safety, IEC 61000-6-1 to -4, EN 55011 and EN 62920 for EMC, and NEC 2020 fire safety.

Installation and compatibility

The PA0 works with Huawei residential inverters: SUN2000-2–6KTL-L1, 3K–6K-LB0, 8/10K-LC0, 3–10KTL-M1, 5–12K-MAP0 and 12–25K-MB0, plus SUN5000-3K/6K-LB0, 8/12K-MAP0 and 17/25K-MB0, each from a minimum firmware version listed in the manual. Strings take 4–20 optimisers and 6kW on L1, LB0 and LC0 models, and 6–35 optimisers on M1 (10kW per string) and on MAP0 or MB0 models (12kW per string).

Optimisers can be fitted to every module under the inverter, or to all modules on selected MPPTs only; in the second case module-level MPPT and monitoring remain, but rapid shutdown, module diagnosis, disconnection detection and long strings are not available. Thin-film and lightweight modules are not supported. Leads are 0.1m on the input and 2.2m (+) / 0.1m (–) on the output, with Staubli MC4 connectors, and no extension cable may be used between module and optimiser.

Monitoring and safety

With a full configuration, rapid shutdown lowers string voltage below 120V within 15s, triggered by switching off the AC switch or an external switch wired to the inverter's DI port. The optimiser layout is mapped in FusionSolar using the SN labels on the physical layout template, and the maximum communication distance to the inverter is 350m. Above 70°C ambient the optimiser may switch off for over-temperature protection and restarts automatically.
