Overview

The S6-EH1P8K-L-PLUS is the 8kW model of the Solis single-phase low-voltage hybrid series and uses different hardware from the 3–6kW models. Its two MPP trackers take two strings each, with 32A per tracker, and Solis recommends up to 16kW of PV, 12.8kW usable. The 48V battery port charges and discharges at up to 190A and 8kW, and the AC pass-through is rated 50A. Cooling is by redundant fans. For Italy, Solis offers the S6-EH1P8K-L-PLUS-IT version, which limits grid output to 6kW in line with CEI 0-21.

How it works

The S6-EH1P-L-PLUS is a single-phase hybrid inverter for low-voltage batteries. PV power from two MPP trackers supplies the home, charges a 40–60V lithium or lead-acid battery and feeds surplus energy to the grid. The battery side is galvanically isolated by a high-frequency stage while the PV side is non-isolated. A CT on the grid connection is supplied for self-use and export control; an SDM120 meter can be added.

PV input is limited to 500V with a 90–435V MPPT range, so strings are shorter than on high-voltage inverters. Solis recommends PV arrays of up to twice the AC rating, with 1.6 times usable. Charge and discharge current ranges from 70A on the 3kW model to 210A on the 10kW model.

Backup, generator and smart loads

The backup port takes over in under 10ms and supplies twice rated power for 10 seconds, which Solis states helps motors, water pumps and air conditioners start. Inverter and generator can supply the load at the same time. A generator connects to the dedicated GEN port or on the grid side, with start and stop signals on separate terminals for each method.

The GEN port can also serve smart loads that are shed according to battery state, or an existing grid-tied PV inverter through AC coupling. The GEN port is rated for the full inverter power: on the 6kW model it accepts 6kW from a generator at 27.3A/26.1A. The backup port must never be connected to the grid.

Installation and compatibility

The housing is IP66, measures 335×560×253mm and weighs about 23kg; models up to 6kW are naturally cooled. Solis asks for 150mm between inverters or other objects and 800mm from the bottom of the unit to the ground. Recommended protection is a 300A DC breaker on the battery side and a two-pole 100A breaker on the AC side. Lead-acid batteries need the battery temperature sensor connected to the BMS port.

Up to six inverters can be paralleled, including three-phase configurations. Approved batteries are on the Solis matching list. The Italian CEI 0-21 declaration lists, among others, BYD Battery-Box Premium LVS/LVL, Pylontech US5000, Dyness PowerBox Pro and SolisStorage FlexHome-L and IntelliHome-OD batteries.

Monitoring and settings

A 7in LCD display, Bluetooth with the SolisCloud app, Wi-Fi and LAN are standard, with CAN for the battery BMS, RS485 for the meter, two parallel CAN ports, DRM, a digital input and two digital outputs; a 2G/3G/4G logger is optional. Time-of-use charge and discharge windows and the battery backup reserve are set in the app or on the display.
