Overview

The HELIVOR HV Module 3.2 is the 3.2kWh, 64V, 50Ah lithium iron phosphate building block of KOSTAL's HELIVOR HV storage. Between two and nine modules stack in series on a base under the separate BMS unit, giving 6.4–28.8kWh at 128–576V per tower. Each module weighs 36.4kg and measures 610×190×240mm. Plan at least two modules plus the BMS with base; a four-module tower of 12.8kWh lets a PLENTICORE S G3 run at its full 4.0kW.

  • 3.2kWh, 64V, 50Ah LiFePO4 modules
  • 2–9 modules per tower: 6.4–28.8kWh, 128–576V
  • Up to 8 towers in parallel, 230.4kWh
  • Charges down to -10°C, IP65 housing
  • 50A continuous, 65A peak for 5 seconds
  • 10-year KOSTAL warranty

How it works

A HELIVOR HV tower consists of a base, two to nine battery modules connected in series and a battery management system (BMS) unit on top. Each module adds 3.2kWh and 64V, so a tower ranges from 6.4kWh at 128V to 28.8kWh at 576V. The storage system was developed and is manufactured by ZYC Energy for use with KOSTAL inverters, while service, support and warranty are handled by KOSTAL Solar Electric.

For larger systems up to eight towers can be connected in parallel through a ZYC Combiner Box, the SCB3-50 for three towers or the SCB8-50 for eight, giving up to 230.4kWh. The BMS monitors the cells, controls charging and discharging and balances the modules actively.

Key features

Modules use lithium iron phosphate cells and connect without screws through plug-in contacts. A tower charges and discharges at up to 50A, with 65A peak for five seconds, and achieves at least 96% cycle efficiency. Charging works from -10°C and discharging from -20°C, up to +55°C. The IP65 housing is 610mm wide and 240mm deep, and an HMI on the BMS shows state of charge, module status and communication with LEDs, with a Black Start button.

Installation and compatibility

Place the base on a firm floor, level it with the adjustable feet 26–34mm from a wall, and secure the BMS and selected modules to the wall with fasteners, as the modules are not screwed together. Use at least 6mm² DC cable, 10mm² for the protective earth and shielded Cat7 cable for the RS485 link. KOSTAL specifies -10 to +55°C ambient, 5–95% humidity and up to 3000m, ideally out of direct sun and rain, and two people for handling.

KOSTAL releases the battery for PLENTICORE G3 from software 3.06.03, PLENTICORE MP G3, PLENTICORE BI 25 G3, PLENTICORE plus G2 from software 2.21 and PLENTICORE BI 5.5/26 and 10/26 G2, each with an approved energy meter. Usable charge and discharge power depends on the inverter and module count, and for Italy KOSTAL permits only battery combinations covered by a CEI 0-21 certificate.

Monitoring and settings

No separate commissioning or configuration of the battery is needed: the inverter detects the battery type and capacity during initial setup, and data appear in the inverter's web server and the KOSTAL Solar Portal. Battery software is updated through the inverter, automatically or manually. Modules can be added later; KOSTAL recommends extending at a state of charge below 50%, ideally around 30%, to speed up balancing.

Questions and answers

Is the BMS included with the battery module?

No. The BMS is supplied as a separate unit together with the tower base; each tower needs one BMS plus two to nine 3.2kWh modules.

What is the minimum system size?

Two modules per tower, which gives 6.4kWh at 128V nominal. The maximum is nine modules, 28.8kWh at 576V, per tower.

How much power can a PLENTICORE G3 draw from the battery?

It depends on module count and inverter size. With an 8.5kW PLENTICORE M G3, KOSTAL lists 3.8kW with two modules, 5.8kW with three, 7.7kW with four and the full 8.5kW from five modules.

Can I add modules later?

Yes. KOSTAL supports capacity extension over the battery's life: switch off inverter and battery, lift the BMS, add the module and refit the BMS, ideally at a state of charge around 30%.

Can it be installed outdoors?

The housing is IP65 and KOSTAL describes it as suitable indoors and outdoors; the manual recommends a site protected from direct sunlight and rain, between -10°C and +55°C.
