Overview

Thirty-six JA Solar JAM54D40-470/LR modules on one pallet, 16.92kWp in total. The 470W class is the top bin of the black-frame LR datasheet, reaching 23.5% module efficiency in the compact 108-half-cell size of 1,762×1,134×30mm and 22kg. Electrically it gives 40.40V Voc, 14.66A Isc and 356W at NOCT. Both faces are 1.6mm glass, but only the front generates power, so it is meant for pitched roofs where the back faces the roof. JA Solar lists a 25-year product warranty and a 25A maximum series fuse.

Monofacial double-glass design

The LR versions of the DeepBlue 4.0 Pro range combine n-type Bycium+ half cells with a glass-glass laminate that produces power from the front only. Both sheets are 1.6mm thick, so the module keeps the moisture barrier and stiffness of a double-glass build without the rear-side current of bifacial versions. JA Solar quotes cell conversion efficiency of up to 26% for these 16-busbar cells.

Two styles share the 108-cell format: the JAM54D40 LR with a black frame (445–470W in its current datasheet) and the JAM54D41 LR, sold as a black module (440–465W). Both use an IP68 junction box with three bypass diodes, QC 4.10-351/MC4-EVO2A connectors and ship 36 per pallet or 936 per 40ft high-cube container.

Electrical design notes

All LR modules are rated for 1500V DC with a 25A maximum series fuse, lower than the 30A of the bifacial versions. Temperature coefficients are -0.290%/°C for Pmax, -0.250%/°C for Voc and +0.045%/°C for Isc. Instead of rear-irradiance values, the datasheets give output at NOCT (800W/m², 20°C ambient, 1m/s wind): 352W for the 465W JAM54D40 LR, for example.

The JA Solar installation manual asks designers to multiply nameplate Isc and Voc by 1.25 when sizing cables, fuses and controls, and to calculate string length from Voc at the lowest expected site temperature. Modules with different electrical characteristics must not share a series string, and each string needs overcurrent protection when more than two are connected in parallel.

Installation

The manual rates both LR versions at +5400/-2400Pa when clamped on the long frame with rails crossing it (clamps at a quarter of the length ±50mm) or bolted through the inner four holes on crossing rails; with rails parallel to the long frame the rating is ±2400Pa. Clamps must be at least 50mm wide and 3mm thick, with M8 stainless bolts at 18–24N·m.

On roofs JA Solar recommends at least 10cm between frame and roof surface, a 10mm gap between modules for thermal expansion and a tilt of at least 10° so rain can clean the glass. Frames must not be drilled; the marked 4.2mm holes are for grounding conductors only.

Warranty and certification

Both LR datasheets carry a 25-year product warranty and a 30-year linear power warranty: 1% loss in the first year and 0.4% per year afterwards, leaving 87.4% of nominal power in year 30. The modules are certified to IEC 61215 and IEC 61730, and production follows ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and IEC 62941.
