Huawei SUN2000-8K-MAP08kW three-phase hybrid inverter with SmartGuard backup

Overview

The SUN2000-8K-MAP0 delivers 8kW rated and 8.8kVA maximum output on a three-phase grid, with up to 14.6kWp of PV recommended by Huawei. Its two 16A MPP trackers operate from 160V to 1000V, and the European efficiency is 98.0%. LUNA2000 batteries charge at up to 12kW and discharge at up to 8.8kW. Off-grid with the SmartGuard-63A-T0 it holds 150% for 5 minutes and 200% for 10 seconds. Huawei recommends a 25A three-phase AC breaker; maximum output current is 13.3A.

How it works

The MAP0 series is a three-phase Smart Energy Controller that combines PV conversion, battery management and grid feed-in in one wall-mounted unit. Two MPP trackers, one string each, accept up to 1100V and 16A, with a 160V start-up voltage and a 160–1000V operating range. The battery port works at 600–980V with LUNA2000-5/10/15-S0 and LUNA2000-7/14/21-S1 systems and charges at up to 12kW on every size, also from the grid.

With the SmartGuard-63A-T0 the inverter moves the home to three-phase off-grid operation within 20ms. Off-grid it sustains 110% of rated power continuously, 150% for 5 minutes on the 5K to 8K or 1 minute on the 10K and 12K (three-phase load), and 200% for 10 seconds. The output accepts 100% three-phase asymmetric load, and asymmetric phase feeding can stop battery energy being exported while PV surplus still reaches the grid.

Installation and compatibility

Huawei recommends a three-phase AC breaker rated 415V or more: 16A for the 5K and 6K, 25A for the 8K and 32A for the 10K and 12K. An external residual current device, where used, must be rated 300mA or more per inverter. Recommended power meters are the DTSU666-H, DTSU71, DHSU1079-CT and YDS60-C24, and a meter is needed for export limitation. Up to three inverters can be cascaded in a PV and storage system.

PV and battery connectors are monitored for temperature, and AFCI arc-fault protection, insulation detection and residual current monitoring are built in. SUN2000-450W-P2 and SUN2000-600W-P optimisers can be added on the DC MBUS, which also enables rapid shutdown. Natural convection keeps noise at 29dB or less, and the unit weighs 21kg and measures 490×460×130mm including the bracket, with IP66 protection.

Monitoring and settings

Commissioning uses the integrated WLAN and the FusionSolar app, with RS485 on board and Ethernet or 4G through the Smart Dongle-WLAN-FE or Smart Dongle-4G. EMMA or SmartAssistant energy managers can be added for SmartGuard backup systems. The inverter accepts ripple control receiver signals and can charge the battery from the grid, controlled in the app through working modes such as maximum self-consumption and time-of-use.
