Overview

A 42.48kWp commercial on-grid kit with the Huawei SUN2000-36KTL-M3, a 36kW and 40kVA three-phase string inverter with four MPPTs and eight inputs. System overview

This kit pairs a 42.48kWp PV array with the Huawei SUN2000-36KTL-M3, a three-phase string inverter Huawei calls a smart PV controller. The array feeds the building's loads directly and exports the surplus; there is no storage. Four MPPTs with two inputs each let the installer split the field into up to eight monitored strings, which helps on roofs with several orientations and makes faults easy to locate. With 42.48kWp on a 36kW unit, the array is oversized by about 18% relative to the rated AC power.

Inverter data

The SUN2000-36KTL-M3 accepts up to 1100V DC with a 200–1000V MPPT range, 600V rated input voltage and 200V start-up. Each MPPT carries 27A, 20A per input, and 40A short-circuit current. Output is 36kW active and 40kVA apparent at 230/400V, 3W/N+PE, with 52A rated current. Huawei quotes 98.7% maximum and 98.4% European efficiency and less than 5.5W at night.

Protection and optimisers

Input-side disconnection, anti-islanding, AC overcurrent, DC reverse polarity, string fault monitoring, DC and AC surge arresters, insulation resistance detection, RCMU, arc fault protection, ripple control and PID recovery are all listed as standard. The design is fuse-free. The inverter is compatible with Huawei SUN2000-450W-P2, SUN2000-600W-P and MERC-1100W/1300W-P optimisers on the DC MBUS, for sites that need module-level optimisation.

Installation and monitoring

The unit measures 640×530×270mm, weighs 43kg with its mounting plate, is rated IP66 and cooled by natural convection, from -25 to +60°C and up to 4000m with derating above 2000m. DC connectors are Amphenol Helios H4. Integrated WLAN works with the FusionSolar app; the Smart Dongle-WLAN-FE or Smart Dongle-4G adds remote monitoring. Listed grid codes include CEI 0-21, CEI 0-16 and VDE-AR-N 4105.
