Overview

A commercial grid-tied kit of 42.48kWp with the Fronius Verto 33.3, a 33.3kW three-phase string inverter with four MPPTs and two inputs per MPPT. The array is below the 50kWp Fronius allows per inverter, and each MPPT can take up to 20kWp, so east, west and south sections can be tracked separately. Integrated surge protection, Arc Guard and open interfaces for Modbus TCP and SunSpec make it a fit for monitored C&I sites.

System overview

The kit pairs a Fronius Verto 33.3 three-phase string inverter with a 42.48kWp PV array. Fronius allows up to 50kWp of PV per inverter and 20kWp per MPPT, so four independently tracked sections of 2 inputs each can follow different roof faces. The system is grid-tied without storage: production covers daytime loads and the surplus is exported, or limited by means of an energy meter.

Inverter data

The Verto 33.3 delivers 33.3kW and 33.3kVA at 380/220V to 480/277V. The DC side accepts 150–1000V, starts at 150V and uses 150–870V of MPP range, with 400–870V needed for full power. Each MPPT handles 28A and 50A short-circuit current, and a single string can carry the whole MPPT current. Fronius quotes 97.98% maximum and 97.76% European efficiency, with less than 16W at night.

Protection and interfaces

DC insulation measurement, a DC disconnector, RCMU, Arc Guard arc detection and reverse polarity protection are integrated, with surge protection devices of Type 1+2 or Type 2 on DC and AC depending on the version. The inverter has WLAN and Ethernet for Fronius Solar.web, Modbus TCP and JSON, two RS485 ports for Modbus RTU SunSpec or the Fronius Smart Meter, six digital inputs and outputs, Wired Shutdown, a datalogger and web server.

Installation

Fronius rates the Verto IP66 for indoor and outdoor mounting from -40 to +60°C, with active cooling and less than 54.6dB(A). It measures 865×574×279mm and weighs 41.75kg. AC terminals take copper or aluminium conductors of 4–35mm², and DC uses Stäubli MC4 connectors. Listed approvals include CEI 0-21, CEI 0-16, VDE-AR-N 4105, EN 50549-1/-2 and IEC 63027. Mounting, cabling, AC protection and grid paperwork are up to the installer.
