Overview

A 1.8kWp kit built around the Hoymiles HMT-2000-4T, a four-input microinverter with three-phase 230/400V output and 2000VA rating. It suits homes and small businesses with a three-phase supply that want a few modules without a string inverter. The four module inputs share two MPPTs, each input takes up to 16A, and Hoymiles lists compatibility with 182mm and 210mm cell modules. A grid protection relay is integrated, and a Hoymiles DTU adds monitoring in S-Miles Cloud.

How the system works

Each kit connects four PV modules to a single Hoymiles 4-in-1 microinverter mounted on the rail beneath them. The single-phase HMS-1600-4T and HMS-2000-4T give every module its own MPPT, so a shaded or dirty panel does not drag the others down. The three-phase HMT-2000-4T uses two MPPTs with two inputs each and feeds 230/400V through 3W+N+PE. Conversion to AC happens next to the modules, so only AC cabling runs to the building.

The microinverters use a galvanically isolated high-frequency transformer and talk to the Hoymiles gateway over a Sub-1G radio link. Hoymiles states that the HMS series meets EN 50549-1, EN 50549-10 and VDE-AR-N 4105 with reactive power control, and lists rapid shutdown compliance for rooftop use.

Key data of the microinverters

All three models accept 16–60V MPPT voltage, 65V maximum input voltage and 25A short-circuit current per input, which suits today's large-format modules. Input current is 14A per input on the HMS-1600-4T and 16A on the 2000VA models. Peak efficiency is 96.7% for the HMS-1600-4T and 96.5% for the HMS-2000-4T and HMT-2000-4T, with 99.8% nominal MPPT efficiency and less than 50mW consumption at night. Enclosures are IP67, cooled by natural convection and rated for -40…+65°C.

Installation and what to add

The Hoymiles quick installation guide fixes the microinverter to the rail with M8 screws at 9N·m, label side up, under the module and out of direct sun and rain, with at least 2cm free around the enclosure. Earthing runs through the conductor inside the AC cable; a grounding cleat is available when the racking must be bonded.

Output is taken through a Hoymiles AC trunk cable and end cable to the distribution box, where a dedicated branch breaker energises the system. Trunk connectors, caps and tools are separate accessories. The installer also supplies the mounting structure for the balcony or roof, the residual-current and overcurrent protection required locally, and the notification to the grid operator.

Monitoring

The DTU-Lite-S gateway collects microinverter data over Sub-1G radio, up to 400m in open space and up to 99 modules, and sends it every 15 minutes to S-Miles Cloud over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. It plugs into a standard socket through its 5V/2A adapter and is set up with the S-Miles Toolkit app. It is supplied with the 1.88kWp kit and is an optional extra for the others.
