Overview

The LB-15D-G3 belongs to Hoymiles' LB-G3 series of low-voltage batteries for home storage with Hoymiles hybrid inverters. Hoymiles' European warranty terms give it a designed energy of 14.9kWh and a usable energy of 13.41kWh at 90% depth of discharge, with a 10-year warranty that guarantees 70% of designed energy or 42MWh of throughput, whichever comes first. How it works

The LB-G3 range stores PV energy for Hoymiles low-voltage hybrid inverters. Hoymiles' European warranty terms list four models, LB-6D-G3, LB-10D-G3, LB-15D-G3 and LB-16D-G3, with designed energies of 6.02kWh, 10.04kWh, 14.9kWh and 16.08kWh and usable energies defined at 90% depth of discharge. Published datasheets describe the LB-10D-G3 and LB-16D-G3 as 51.2V lithium iron phosphate batteries built with 314Ah cells, each with a BMS that reports to the inverter over CAN.

According to those datasheets, the BMS protects against over- and undervoltage, overcurrent and temperature extremes, and an integrated DC breaker isolates the battery. Cycle life is 8000 cycles at 90% DoD to 70% end of life (25°C, 0.5C), and certification covers IEC 62619, UN 38.3 and CE-EMC. Charging works from 0°C to +55°C, or from -20°C with the optional heating function, and discharging from -20°C to +55°C.

Installation and expansion

The LB-10D-G3 and LB-16D-G3 are rated IP65 for indoor or outdoor installation up to 2000m. They stand on the floor and are secured to a load-bearing wall; a wall bracket and, for the LB-16D-G3, wheels are optional. The LB-16D-G3 manual asks for at least 300mm above and 500mm at each side, away from doors, windows, heat sources and flammable materials, and includes power, ground and two communication cables in the box.

Capacity grows by connecting up to 16 batteries in parallel through copper busbars, and the LB-16D-G3 manual also shows one battery bank serving a multi-inverter system with up to 10 inverters. Hoymiles' compatible battery list names the LB-6D-G3, LB-10D-G3 and LB-16D-G3 for the HIS-L-G3, HIT-L-G3 and HYS-LV hybrid inverters, each with a minimum firmware version.

Warranty

Hoymiles gives the LB-G3 series a 10-year product warranty in Europe, starting at installation or four months after shipment, whichever comes first. Over the same period it guarantees at least 70% of designed energy, or a minimum granted throughput per model, whichever is reached first: 42MWh for the LB-15D-G3 and 44.8MWh for the LB-16D-G3. The warranty also covers the enclosure, any enclosed micro circuit breaker and the BMS electronics.
