Overview

The NLW-1Y5K is a 51.2V lithium iron phosphate battery from Haier's NAHUI line with 5.32kWh nominal and 5.05kWh usable energy. It discharges at up to 100A and charges at up to 50A, communicates over CAN, RS485 and Wi-Fi, and is rated for more than 6000 cycles. Only 140mm deep and weighing 45kg, it can be wall-mounted or free-standing, indoors or outdoors (IP65). Up to eight units can be connected in parallel.

How it works

The NLW-1Y5K is a self-contained 48V battery with 16 LFP cells in series, a built-in BMS and a 5.32kWh nominal capacity, of which 5.05kWh are usable at 95% depth of discharge. It charges at up to 50A and discharges at up to 100A within a 43.2–57.6V window, with 57.6V as charge voltage. The BMS protects against overcharge, overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, over-temperature and short circuit, and balances the cells.

Several units are connected in parallel, never in series: NAHUI recommends up to three and allows up to eight. Module addresses are assigned automatically, and the unit linked to the inverter acts as master for the others over RS485. After power and communication cables are connected, the master battery is switched on first.

Installation

At 420×650×140mm and 45kg, the battery can hang on a wall bracket fixed with six expansion screws or stand on the floor. It is IP65 for indoor or outdoor use and cooled by natural convection. The box contains two 2000mm power cables (4AWG, 100A continuous), a 3000mm communication cable to the inverter and a grounding cable. Before paralleling, units with different voltages must be balanced to within 2V.

Charging is possible from -10°C and discharging from -20°C up to +50°C. Between -10°C and 0°C the battery charges only up to 60% SOC, and below 0°C it discharges only above 20% SOC, with current adjusted to temperature. NAHUI recommends a temperature-controlled location between 15°C and 40°C for full performance.

Compatibility and monitoring

The battery communicates with the inverter over CAN, with a 120Ω termination resistor recommended, or over RS485 at 9600bps by default. The manual asks for connection only to a specified matching inverter, so the battery list of the chosen 48V inverter should be checked. Wi-Fi links the battery to the NAHUI app for status, SOC and alarms; the START button, pressed for 3–6 seconds, wakes the battery or switches it off.
