Overview

The GW5K-BHA-G20 is the 5kW AC-coupled power module of the GoodWe ESA single-phase system. It has no PV input: it is wired into the house next to an existing grid-tied PV inverter and stores the surplus in Lynx D G2 battery modules, charging at 5kW and discharging at 5.5kW. In an outage it supplies 5kVA, or 10kVA for 10 seconds, and switches to backup in under 10ms. The fanless module weighs 16.9kg and is rated IP66 for indoor or outdoor installation.

  • Hybrid (EHA) and AC-coupled (BHA) power modules from 3 to 10kW
  • Battery modules of 5.12, 6, 8.32 and 9kWh, up to 12
  • Blind-mate stacking: no DC cables between inverter and batteries
  • 63A internal bypass for whole-home backup
  • Fanless, IP66, indoor or outdoor, wall or floor mounting
  • Up to 10 power modules in parallel, on-grid and off-grid

How it works

The ESA 3–10kW joins a single-phase power module and a column of Lynx D G2 battery modules into one unit. The power module sits on top of the stack and connects to the batteries through blind-mate connectors, so no DC cabling is run on site. EHA models are hybrid inverters with two MPP trackers (four on 8–10kW) and a 600V PV input; BHA models have no PV input and are AC-coupled to an existing PV inverter.

The battery bus works at 350–550V. Modules of 5.12, 6, 8.32 and 9kWh can be combined, including new and older units, from one module up to twelve (5–108kWh). Every power module has an ON-GRID and a BACK-UP port. The internal 63A bypass lets the BACK-UP port carry the whole house: when the grid fails, the battery takes over the backed-up circuits automatically.

Key features

Working modes are self-consumption, backup, time-of-use, delayed charging for export-limited sites, demand control and off-grid. On EHA models the PV array can reach twice the rated power, and the battery can be charged from PV above the AC rating (4.5kW on the 3kW model). Off-grid, the backup output delivers twice its rating for 10 seconds. A dry contact drives a contactor for loads such as a heat pump, and AFCI is integrated in EHA models.

Installation and compatibility

Floor-standing columns take up to six modules, and a system up to three groups and twelve modules. Wall-mounted groups are limited to three 5.12/6kWh or two 8.32/9kWh modules; the base, brackets and top module are secured to the wall with anti-tip brackets. A built-in meter with a 120A:40mA CT is supplied; GMK110, GMK330 or GM330 meters are used with generators or parallel systems, GM330 above two units.

Up to ten power modules of different sizes can run in parallel, each with a WiFi/LAN Kit-20. STS versions can be combined with GW30K-STS-G10 or GW60K-STS-G10 transfer cabinets for a generator or extra loads. GoodWe recommends a 20–63A ON-GRID breaker for partial backup and 63A for whole-home backup, plus a Type A RCD of at least 300mA where an RCD is required. CEI 0-21 and EN 50549-1/-10 certificates cover both EHA and BHA models.

Monitoring and settings

Commissioning and monitoring run through the SEMS+ app and portal, over Bluetooth locally and Wi-Fi/LAN or an optional 4G kit remotely. Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP are available for third-party energy managers. After the first start-up the system fully charges the battery once to calibrate the BMS. For off-grid use GoodWe advises a minimum SOC of 30% and a full charge and discharge every six months.

Questions and answers

What is the difference between EHA and BHA power modules?

EHA power modules are hybrid inverters with PV inputs, a DC switch and integrated AFCI. BHA modules are AC-coupled: they have no PV input and charge the battery from the AC side, for example from an existing grid-tied PV inverter.

Can I mix 5kWh and 8kWh battery modules?

Yes. Modules of different capacities and ages can be mixed, but battery heating is not available in a mixed system and the BMS and DC/DC software must be V06 or later.

How many battery modules fit on a wall?

A wall-mounted group holds up to three 5.12kWh or 6kWh modules, or two 8.32kWh or 9kWh modules, with up to three groups per system. Floor-standing columns take up to six modules.

Does the ESA 3–10kW provide whole-home backup?

Yes. The internal 63A bypass allows the BACK-UP port to supply the whole house, and GoodWe recommends a 63A breaker for this layout on every model.

Is the system certified for Italy?

GoodWe publishes a CEI 0-21 certificate that lists all EHA and BHA power modules from 3 to 10kW.
