APsystems EZHI1200VA single-phase hybrid microinverter for balcony storage

Overview

EZHI turns a balcony PV system into a small storage system: two PV inputs with MPP tracking, a 51.2V battery port with 40A charge current and CAN communication, and an on-grid port delivering 800VA by default, up to 1200VA. A separate off-grid socket provides 1200VA continuous and 1800VA for 10s, taking over within 5ms in a blackout. APsystems recommends 430–900Wp of modules. The 8kg IP67 unit mounts on a wall and pairs with batteries from APsystems' compatibility list, such as APbattery 5.12kWh or Pylontech US3000C.

How it works

EZHI sits between up to four PV modules, a 51.2V battery and a household socket. Two inputs with MPP tracking (12–48V, 60V maximum) charge the battery at up to 40A, and the on-grid port feeds the home at 800VA by default or up to 1200VA when enabled in the app. A separate off-grid port supplies 1200VA, 1800VA for 10s, and switches over within 5ms when the grid fails, so selected loads keep running from battery and PV.

Battery, meter and PV options

The battery port accepts 40–60V, communicates over CAN and discharges at up to 27A. Only batteries on APsystems' compatibility list may be used, otherwise the EZHI warranty is void; the list includes APbattery 5.12kWh, Pylontech US3000C, Dyness DL5.0C and models from several other brands, and several packs can be paralleled. Zero feed-in works with the app alone or with listed meters such as Shelly Pro 3EM, EverHome EcoTracker and APmeter. The off-grid port also accepts an AC-coupled microinverter such as the EZ1.

Installation

The package contains a wall bracket, fixings, an EU power cord and an off-grid power strip. Mount the unit vertically or tilted back by no more than 15°, out of direct sun, in a ventilated place and at least 500mm above the ground. Each PV module must stay on one channel, with DC leads within 3m and module Voc below 60V; two modules of about 450W can share one input in parallel. In Germany, systems above 800W must be installed by an electrician.

Operating modes and monitoring

In the AP EasyPower app the user chooses between a balcony storage scene, which exports 200W by default and does not charge the battery from the grid, a portable power station scene that charges from PV and grid, and a Local API mode for home-automation systems. Battery SOC limits, discharge protection, timed output schedules and smart-meter linkage are set in the app. The warranty is 12 years from app registration; unregistered units carry only a 2-year limited warranty.
