Solis S6-EA1P5K-L5kW single-phase AC-coupled inverter for 48V batteries

Overview

The S6-EA1P5K-L adds storage to an existing single-phase PV system with 5kW of AC charging power and up to 5.3kW of discharge power. It works with 48V lithium batteries from 40V to 60V at up to 105A, communicating over CAN or using generic settings for batteries without communication. Self-use, feed-in priority and peak-shaving modes are available, and the IP66 housing is naturally cooled. Solis recommends a 160A DC breaker between battery and inverter.

How it works

The S6-EA1P(3.6-6)K-L is a single-phase battery inverter connected on the AC side. It is designed to upgrade an existing grid-tied PV system to a storage system: the PV inverter stays in place, and the AC-coupled inverter charges a 48V lithium battery from surplus PV power and discharges it to cover household consumption. It has no PV input and no separate backup output.

A smart meter at the grid connection point measures the power flow for the self-use algorithm, and a CT measures the output of the existing PV inverter so both appear in SolisCloud. The battery side is galvanically isolated by a high-frequency stage, and battery charge and discharge efficiency to AC is above 93.5%.

Operating modes

Three work modes are available. Self-use stores surplus PV energy and supplies the home from the battery. Feed-in priority exports surplus first and stores only what exceeds the export quota. Peak shaving limits the power drawn from the grid and keeps the battery at a set state of charge for peaks. Up to six time-of-use windows control charging and discharging, and Solis offers AI-based tariff optimisation in SolisCloud.

Installation and compatibility

The inverter measures 440×465×192mm, weighs 19.9kg and is rated IP66 for indoor or outdoor mounting, with natural cooling. Keep at least 250mm between inverters or other objects and 800mm from the bottom of the unit to the ground. Solis recommends a DC breaker between battery and inverter: 100A for the 3.6kW model and 160A for 4.6–6kW.

Batteries from 40V to 60V communicating over CAN are supported; approved models are on the Solis low-voltage matching list, including SolisStorage FlexHome-L, IntelliHome-OD and IntelliHouse. Generic lithium settings are available for batteries without communication. Listed grid codes are C10/11, EN 50549, G98, G99, VDE-AR-N 4105 and AS 4777.2; CEI 0-21 is not listed in the datasheet.

Monitoring

Status is shown by LED indicators and commissioning is done over Bluetooth with the SolisCloud app. A Wi-Fi/WLAN stick is supplied for remote monitoring, battery data in real time, firmware upgrades and a battery maintenance function that Solis calls battery healing. RS485 and CAN are standard, with a DRM port for demand response.
