Overview

The SE8K-RW0TEBEN4 is the 8kW SolarEdge Home Wave Inverter Three Phase. It provides 8000VA at 13A per phase and takes up to 12kW of PV at STC, 150% of its rated power, through SolarEdge power optimisers on each module. European weighted efficiency reaches 97.6% with 98% peak. Maximum DC input current is 13.5A at a fixed nominal string voltage of 750V. The fan-cooled 16.4kg housing is rated IP65, runs below 40dBA and includes arc-fault protection and export limitation, with commissioning through SetApp.

  • Eight models from 3kW to 10kW, 16.4kg housing
  • PV array up to 150% of rated AC power
  • 98% maximum efficiency, up to 97.6% European
  • Commissioning with the SetApp smartphone app
  • Integrated arc-fault protection to UL 1699B
  • IP65, -40…+60°C, below 40dBA

How it works

Home Wave three-phase inverters are fixed-voltage inverters. Each PV module has a SolarEdge power optimiser that tracks its own maximum power point, so the inverter can keep the string at a nominal 750V whatever the string length, orientation or shading. The inverter converts this DC to 400/230V three-phase AC on a 3/N/PE connection. The optimisers also report module-level data and drop to a 1V safety voltage each when the inverter is switched off or disconnected.

Key features

All models share a 16.4kg enclosure 540mm high, 315mm wide and 191mm deep, cooled by an internal fan and quieter than 40dBA. Maximum DC power is 150% of the rated AC power, for instance 15kW on the SE10K, with a 900V maximum input voltage and 700kΩ isolation monitoring. Arc-fault protection is integrated and user configurable, and export limitation and home energy management of controlled devices are built in. SolarEdge describes the series as battery-ready, pending battery availability and a firmware upgrade.

Installation and compatibility

The inverter mounts on a wall, stud frame or pole with the supplied bracket, preferably out of direct sun. SolarEdge asks for at least 20cm above and below and 10cm at each side, and 40cm between inverters mounted one above the other. AC cables enter through a 15–21mm gland and PV strings use two MC4 pairs. The internal RCD trips at 30mA and 300mA; if local rules require an external RCD, SolarEdge recommends type A at 100mA or 300mA, one per inverter.

Monitoring and settings

Grid connection standards listed include CEI 0-21, VDE-AR-N 4105, EN 50549-1, Tor Erzeuger Typ A, C10/11, RD1699, VFR 2019, G98 and G100; the SE3K, SE4K and SE6K are only offered in some countries. SetApp commissions the inverter through its Wi-Fi access point and updates the firmware. RS485 and Ethernet are built in, while the SolarEdge Home Network, Wi-Fi and cellular are optional connections to the monitoring platform.

Questions and answers

How many power optimisers go in one string?

With S440 or S500 optimisers on a 230/400V three-phase inverter, 16 to 50 per string; with S500B or S650B, 14 to 50. Each string may carry 11,250W continuously, or up to 13,500W when strings differ by no more than 2,000W. The S650A allows 10 to 38.

Can a battery be added?

SolarEdge describes the Home Wave as battery-ready, pending battery availability and a firmware upgrade. For storage today, the SolarEdge Home Hub Inverter Three Phase (SE*K-RWB48) is the model designed for the SolarEdge Home Battery 48V.

How much PV can be connected to the SE8K?

Up to 12kW at STC, which is 150% of its 8000VA rated output. The same 150% ratio applies to every model in the series.

Is it approved for the Italian grid?

CEI 0-21 is among the grid connection standards in the datasheet; certificates are available in the SolarEdge knowledge centre.

Which part number belongs to this series?

The datasheet applies to part numbers SEXXK-XXXTXBXX4, such as SE10K-RW0TEBEN4.
