Huawei SUN2000-100KTL-M2100kW three-phase string inverter, 10 MPPT

Overview

The SUN2000-100KTL-M2 delivers 100kW nominal and up to 110kVA on 380V, 400V or 480V three-phase grids, with 144.4A nominal output current at 400V. Ten MPP trackers with two inputs each take 20 strings at up to 1,100V, with 30A per tracker and 40A short-circuit current per tracker. Maximum efficiency is 98.6% at 400V and 98.8% at 480V. Unlike the 115KTL-M2 it includes arc fault protection (AFCI), and the 1,035×700×365mm IP66 unit weighs up to 93kg with its mounting plate.

How it works

The SUN2000-100KTL-M2 and SUN2000-115KTL-M2 are transformerless three-phase string inverters for commercial and industrial PV systems. Twenty string inputs are grouped into ten independent MPP trackers with two strings each, so roof areas with different orientations or string lengths can share one inverter. Each tracker accepts 30A, with 20A per single input and 40A short-circuit current, over a 200–1,000V operating range and a 1,100V maximum input voltage.

Three DC switches divide the inputs: the first controls MPPT1–4, the second MPPT5–7 and the third MPPT8–10. Smart air cooling adapts fan speed to temperature and load, and the inverters operate from -25°C to +60°C up to 4,000m. Both feed 400V or 480V three-phase grids, the 100KTL-M2 also 380V, with or without a neutral conductor, and the power factor is adjustable from 0.8 leading to 0.8 lagging.

Protection and diagnostics

Type II surge arresters on the DC and AC sides, DC insulation resistance detection, a residual current monitoring unit, anti-islanding and string fault monitoring are built in, together with a Smart String Level Disconnector. Arc fault protection (AFCI) is supported on the 100KTL-M2; Huawei's user manual does not list it for the 115KTL-M2. Smart I-V curve diagnosis scans the strings from the management system, so degraded modules or poor connections can be found without measuring every string on site.

Installation and compatibility

The inverter is mounted on a support or a wall, vertically or with up to 75° back tilt. For several units Huawei recommends a side-by-side or triangle layout, not stacking, and 600–730mm of clearance below the unit. The housing measures 1,035×700×365mm and weighs up to 93kg. TN-S, TN-C, TN-C-S, TT and IT earthing systems are supported; on connections other than the low-voltage public grid the inverter needs an isolation transformer and should not use overhead lines.

Huawei recommends a three-phase AC circuit breaker of at least 500V AC and 250A, installed in the AC combiner box. Strings on the same MPPT should have the same number of identical modules, string open-circuit voltage must never exceed 1,100V, and full parallel connection of strings outside the inverter is not supported. DC connectors are Amphenol Helios H4, and the AC side uses a waterproof gland with OT/DT lugs.

Monitoring and settings

Status is shown by LED indicators and the inverter is commissioned with the FusionSolar app. Plant communication runs over RS485 to a SmartLogger, over MBUS on the AC power cables, or directly to the cloud through an optional Smart Dongle-4G or Smart Dongle-WLAN-FE. MBUS is meant for medium-voltage and industrial connections, needs an isolation transformer and, with multi-core AC cables, reaches up to 1,000m. A USB port is provided for local maintenance.
