Overview

The HMS-500W-1T is the 500VA model of Hoymiles' Wi-Fi microinverter series for one PV module, typically 400W to 670W and above. It tracks from 16V to 60V with up to 16A input current, accepts up to 65V and reaches 96.5% peak efficiency. Built-in Wi-Fi replaces the DTU gateway: the unit can be read locally with the S-Miles Installer app or linked to S-Miles Cloud through the home router. With the optional Schuko plug-and-play cable it suits balcony installations; up to 11 units fit on one 2.5mm² line.

How it works

The HMS-W-1T microinverters convert the output of one PV module into 230V single-phase AC through a galvanically isolated high-frequency transformer. A single MPPT tracks between 16V and 60V, starts from 22V, and handles module currents up to 16A on the 500VA model. Unlike Sub-1G HMS models, these units include an industrial-grade Wi-Fi module, so monitoring and settings work without a separate DTU gateway. Hoymiles designed the series for small systems in open spaces such as balconies.

Two monitoring modes are available. In direct connection the S-Miles Installer app talks to the microinverter locally over its own Wi-Fi, showing real-time data without registering an account. In remote connection the microinverter joins the home router, which must offer a 2.4GHz network, and sends data to S-Miles Cloud. The output power can be set in the app to meet local limits for plug-in systems.

Installation and compatibility

For a single unit, the optional Flex-S3 plug-and-play cable, 1.5mm² and 5m long with a Schuko plug, connects the microinverter straight to a household socket. Larger systems use Flex-S3 trunk connectors and connection cables wired to the distribution board; on 2.5mm² cable at 230V up to 11 HMS-500W-1T units fit on one line. Mount the unit under the module with at least 2cm of free space around it. The 182×164×30mm housing weighs 1.75kg and is rated IP67.

Standards and warranty

The series complies with VDE-AR-N 4105:2018, EN 50549-1:2019 and VFR 2019, plus IEC/EN 62109-1/-2 safety and IEC/EN 61000 EMC standards, and Hoymiles states rapid shutdown compliance. Under Hoymiles' European warranty terms, Wi-Fi integrated HMS-W models carry a 12-year standard warranty; the 25-year extension offered for non-Wi-Fi microinverters does not apply to them.
