Fronius Verto 20.0 Plus20kW three-phase hybrid inverter with battery input and Full Backup

Overview

The Verto 20.0 Plus is a 20kW three-phase hybrid inverter with three 28A MPP trackers, each with two inputs, and a 150–700V battery input rated 50A. It accepts up to 30kWp of PV, and up to 30,000W of DC power can be used at the same time for AC output and battery charging, as Enhanced Power Harvest stores up to 150% of the AC rating. In Full Backup it supplies its rated power on three phases, with Backup Power Boost peaks of 30,000VA for up to 10s. Fronius recommends a 50A AC fuse; this item is the SPD 1+2 version.

How it works

Verto Plus is a transformerless three-phase hybrid inverter for 400/230V and 380/220V grids in six power classes: 15.0, 17.5, 20.0, 25.0, 30.0 and 33.3kW. Three MPP trackers, each with two DC inputs and 28A, cover a 150–870V usable MPP range within a 1,000V maximum, while a DC-coupled high-voltage battery input (150–700V, 50A) stores surplus energy for later use or backup.

With external switchover components such as the Fronius Backup Controller 3P-35A or 3PN-35A, or a manual Backup Switch, the inverter forms a three-phase Full Backup grid at its rated power in about 11s. Backup Power Boost delivers short peaks of 30kVA (15.0–20.0) or 50kVA (25.0–33.3) for up to 10s, which helps start heat pumps and motors.

Key features

Enhanced Power Harvest sends PV energy above the AC rating into the battery: up to 150% on the 15.0–20.0, 130% on the 25.0 and 30.0, and 117% on the 33.3. DC type 1+2 and AC type 2 surge protection, Fronius Arc Guard arc detection, an RCMU and insulation monitoring are integrated. As Parallel Backup coordinator, a Verto Plus with battery can bring up to four Symo GEN24 or Verto inverters into backup operation.

Installation and compatibility

Fronius approves Reserva 6.3–15.8kWh, Reserva Pro 12.0–32.0kWh and BYD Battery-Box HVS/HVS+ 5.1–12.8kWh, HVM/HVM+ 11.0–22.1kWh and HVB 11.8–29.6kWh; HVM 8.3kWh and HVB 5.9–8.9kWh are excluded. Up to four Fronius battery systems or three BYD systems of identical capacity can be combined. The AC terminals accept aluminium or copper conductors of 4–35mm² through an M32 gland.

Fronius recommends a 40A AC fuse for the 15.0 and 17.5, 50A for the 20.0 and 63A for the 25.0–33.3, with 63A as the maximum for all sizes. A type A RCD is generally sufficient where required. Mount the 43kg unit on a load-bearing, non-flammable wall, mast or frame, indoors or outdoors at a tilt between 90° and 10°, away from direct sunlight.

Monitoring and settings

WLAN, Ethernet and an integrated datalogger with web server connect the inverter to Fronius Solar.web, and Modbus TCP SunSpec and JSON serve third-party systems. Two RS485 ports handle the Fronius Smart Meter, the battery and Modbus RTU SunSpec devices; 6 digital inputs and 6 inputs/outputs cover ripple control, energy and load management, and wired shutdown (WSD) is built in.
