Overview

The Symo GEN24 3.0 Plus is a 3kW three-phase hybrid inverter in the compact GEN24 housing (530×474×165mm, 15.6kg). Two 12.5A MPP trackers work up to 1,000V and accept up to 4.5kWp of PV in total. The battery input covers 160–700V at 12.5A, which limits battery charge and discharge power to 3,150W. Backup is provided by PV Point, a single-phase 3kVA circuit, as Full Backup is reserved for the 6.0–10.0 Plus. Fronius recommends a 10A AC circuit breaker.

How it works

Symo GEN24 is a transformerless three-phase inverter for 400/230V or 380/220V grids in two housings: 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0kW (530×474×165mm, 15.6kg) and 6.0, 8.0 and 10.0kW (595×529×180mm, 23.4kg). Two MPP trackers operate across 80–800V within a 1,000V maximum input, which suits long strings. Plus versions add a DC-coupled high-voltage battery input for self-consumption and backup.

All models provide PV Point, a single-phase 3kVA backup circuit that restarts about 15s after a grid failure while PV or battery power is available. On the 6.0–10.0 Plus, Full Backup supplies the backed-up circuits on three phases at rated power, up to 3,680VA per phase, with a switching time of about 10s, using a Fronius Backup Controller or Backup Switch.

Key features

On the 3.0–5.0 both trackers take 12.5A; on the 6.0–10.0 the first tracker takes 25A (40A short-circuit) for high-current modules and the second 12.5A. The maximum PV array runs from 4.5kWp (3.0) to 15kWp (10.0), and maximum efficiency is 98.1–98.2%. Battery current is 12.5A on the 3.0–5.0 and 22A on the 6.0–10.0, with battery power up to the usable DC power of 3,150–10,300W.

Installation and compatibility

Fronius approves Reserva with 2–5 modules (6.3–15.8kWh), Reserva Pro with 3–8 modules (12.0–32.0kWh), BYD Battery-Box HVS/HVS+ 5.1–12.8kWh, HVM/HVM+ 11.0–22.1kWh and LG FLEX 8.6–17.2kWh, depending on national certification; HVS 12.8kWh is not approved for Italy. Up to four Reserva systems of equal capacity can be paralleled. On the standard versions, battery support is optional through Fronius UP where available.

Use an automatic circuit breaker of no more than 32A; Fronius recommends 10A, 13A and 16A for the 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0, and 16A, 25A and 32A for the 6.0, 8.0 and 10.0. A type A RCD is generally sufficient where required, with a frequency-inverter-type device of at least 100mA recommended. PV, battery and AC wiring use push-in spring terminals.

Monitoring and settings

The built-in datalogger links the inverter to Fronius Solar.web over WLAN or two Ethernet ports, and commissioning is done with the Fronius Solar.start app or a browser. Modbus TCP SunSpec and the Fronius Solar API (JSON) are standard, two RS485 ports connect the Fronius Smart Meter, battery, Ohmpilot and Modbus RTU devices, and 12 digital I/Os control ripple receivers and loads.
