Deye GB-L-Pro-Pack4.1-24kWh 102.4V LiFePO4 module for the GB-L-Pro high-voltage stack

Overview

GB-L-Pro-Pack4.1-2 is the 4kWh module of Deye's GB-L-Pro high-voltage battery: 40Ah lithium iron phosphate cells at 102.4V nominal in a 39kg IP65 case of 540×385×220mm. Two to six modules stack in series on the GB-L base under a GB-LBS-Pro control box, so the module count sets both capacity and voltage, from 8kWh at 204.8V to 24kWh at 614.4V. It is the part to order when building a new stack or adding capacity to an existing one, up to six modules.

How it works

GB-L-Pro is a residential high-voltage battery built as a floor-standing stack. A GB-L base carries two to six GB-L-Pro-Pack4.1-2 modules connected in series by plug-in contacts, and the GB-LBS-Pro control box on top holds the BMS, high-voltage DC switch, LCD and the power and communication ports to the inverter. Each module stores 4kWh at 102.4V nominal with 40Ah lithium iron phosphate cells.

With two modules the system is GB-L8-Pro (204.8V, 8kWh) and each further module adds 102.4V and 4kWh up to GB-L24-Pro (614.4V, 24kWh). The system voltage window is 166.4–700V. Recommended current is 20A, nominal charge and discharge current 40A, and discharge peaks of 50A are allowed for 2 minutes at 25°C. Usable energy is 90% of nominal, for example 21.6kWh on GB-L24-Pro.

Key features

The modules include an explosion relief vent and a fire protection device that Deye says cuts off the fire source within 3 seconds. Low-temperature cells allow charging and discharging from -20 to 55°C, and temperature sensing covers the main components. Deye rates the system for at least 6000 cycles at 0.5C to 70% end of life and gives a 10-year warranty, ending at the warranty period or the warranted energy, whichever comes first.

Installation and compatibility

Although the enclosure is IP65 with anti-corrosion design to C2 or better, the manual limits installation to indoor or roofed sites, out of the sun, in a fireproof room with its own fire alarm, at up to 2000m and 5–90% humidity. Modules weigh 39kg and need two people; the control box is fixed to the wall with expansion bolts. The supplied 2m power cables (6AWG, 1000V) and communication cable connect the control box to the inverter's battery and BMS ports.

Up to 16 stacks can be paralleled through a combiner box. Without Deye's combiner, Deye requires a device rated for 1000V DC and 50A with 50A breaking current, IP55 if outdoors; cable lengths from each stack to the inverter should be equal and below 20m in total. Each stack needs at least two and at most six modules.

Monitoring and settings

The touch LCD on the control box shows state of charge, power and total voltage and flags faults such as over-voltage, under-voltage, over-temperature, insulation and charge over-current. After assembly the installer enters the number of modules in the maintenance menu. A coloured light strip shows self-check, charging, alarm and fault. Battery data reach the inverter over CAN 2.0 or RS485, and can also be read on a PC with Deye's upper-computer software.
