Weco 5K0 SMART TRI-SMART 12K12kW three-phase all-in-one hybrid inverter for 450V WeCo batteries

Overview

The TRI-SMART 12K is a 12kW, 400V three-phase hybrid inverter for WeCo's stackable SMART storage system. It takes up to 24kW of PV on two MPP trackers with an operating range of 125–850V. Full 12kVA backup output needs three or four battery modules; with two modules it is limited to 8kVA. Charging, discharge and backup switching are coordinated with the SMART battery modules over the WECO CAN protocol.

How it works

The TRI-SMART inverters are the three-phase version of the 5K0 SMART all-in-one system: the inverter module is stacked on battery modules that each contain a DC/DC booster to about 450V, heating and fire suppression. Two MPP trackers work from 125 to 850V with 1000V maximum Voc, 30A per tracker and 36A short-circuit current, and accept PV up to twice the rated AC power, from 16kW on the 8K to 30kW on the 15K.

Backup output scales with installed storage: one 5K0 module allows 2.5kW, or 4kW with an 8K0 module; two modules give 8kVA; three or four modules unlock the full rating of each model. The EPS output is 400V three-phase with a 370–430V range and switches over in 15ms on average. Rated and full backup power are identical: 8, 10, 12 or 15kW.

Key features

The system offers automatic self-consumption, peak shaving with charge and discharge windows, and battery priority modes; with feed-in disabled, PV output is limited. The datasheet lists up to four battery modules per inverter and up to four inverters in parallel. Cell heating keeps the batteries usable in cold periods, every module has its own fire suppression, and the inverter provides GEN, CT and smart meter ports.

Installation and compatibility

The datasheet allows wall, floor or shelf installation, with the battery stack on a level base. WeCo asks for a ventilated, sheltered position away from direct sun, rain and snow, and both inverter and batteries reduce power above 40°C. Only WeCo SMART series batteries with the 450V DC/DC stage are compatible. The inverter module measures 640×420×210mm.

Listed grid standards include CEI 0-21, VDE-AR-N 4105, DIN VDE V 0124-100, NTS 2.1 type A, UNE 217001 and 217002, RD 244, RD 647 and UKCA. WeCo publishes a CEI 0-21 certificate covering the 8–15kW models, plus IEC 62109, IEC 62477 and RED/EMC certificates for the 15kW system.

Monitoring and settings

Commissioning and settings run through the NooR app, also remotely, with a wizard for adding devices. Owners use the WeCo cloud platform, where inverters and WeCo EV chargers can be added to the system overview. Batteries communicate over the WECO CAN protocol. The inverter warranty is five years, extendable to ten when connected to a WeCo lithium storage system and registered.
