Who we areNew, original Victron Energy products with full manufacturer warranty, supplied with their documentation.
The BlueSolar PWM DUO-LCD&USB 12/24V-20A charges two separate batteries, such as a vehicle starter battery and a leisure battery, from one solar array, sharing up to 20A between them. It works at 12V or 24V, with 240W or 480W maximum solar input, and suits 36-cell panels on 12V systems. A display with three buttons, a remote temperature sensor and two 5V USB ports are included. It weighs 0.3kg and measures 184×101.5×47.1mm.
The PWM DUO connects the solar array to the batteries through pulse-width modulation and charges in three stages: bulk, absorption and float. Its 20A is divided between two independent battery outputs, for example the starter and service batteries of a boat or motorhome. During bulk the split follows an adjustable ratio, 50% to battery 1 by default; once battery 1 is full more current goes to battery 2, and with only battery 1 connected it receives all the current.
Five presets cover AGM, gel and flooded lead-acid batteries at 12V or 24V and LiFePO4 batteries with internal BMS at 12.8V or 25.6V; with LiFePO4 the system voltage is not detected automatically. The included remote sensor corrects the absorption voltage by -30mV/°C at 12V and -60mV/°C at 24V. Two USB ports supply 5V and 2A in total, switching off at 10.5V or 21V battery voltage. Protections cover panel and battery reverse polarity, low voltage and over-temperature.
As a PWM controller it needs a PV array matched to the battery: 36-cell panels for 12V, with a 15–28V solar voltage range, and 72 cells or two 36-cell panels in series for 24V, with 30–55V. Maximum input power is 240W at 12V and 480W at 24V. Connect battery 1 first, then battery 2, then the array, and reverse the order when removing it. The controller has a common negative, is rated IP20 and must be fed by solar modules only.
The LCD shows the voltage and state of charge of each battery, PV voltage, total charge current, USB voltage, internal temperature and battery temperature. Three buttons change the battery type, the charging ratio between the two batteries and the switching frequency between them, 25Hz, 50Hz or 100Hz. Alarms appear on the display for high temperature and for battery voltages below 10.6V or above 16.5V.
During bulk, according to the charging ratio set for battery 1, 50% by default. When battery 1 is fully charged more current flows to battery 2, and with only battery 1 connected it receives the full 20A.
Victron specifies 36-cell panels for 12V; the solar voltage range at 12V is 15–28V and maximum input power is 240W. For 24V use 72 cells or two 36-cell panels in series.
Yes, with LiFePO4 batteries that have an internal BMS, using preset b04 for 12.8V or b05 for 25.6V. The system voltage is then set by the preset rather than detected automatically.
They are disconnected when the battery voltage falls to 10.5V on 12V systems or 21V on 24V systems, and reconnect at 12V or 24V.
