Overview

The Tigo TS4-A-2F in its 25A version brings rapid shutdown to two PV modules with one device, halving the number of units on the roof compared with one per module. Each of its two 80V inputs is rated 700W, for 1400W per unit, with 20A operating and 25A short-circuit current suited to bifacial and high-current modules. It provides no optimisation or monitoring and works only with a Tigo RSS Transmitter or an inverter with a built-in Tigo-certified transmitter.

  • TS4-A-O: 700W optimiser with monitoring and shutdown
  • TS4-A-2F: rapid shutdown for two modules, 1400W
  • Shutdown within 30 seconds, under 30V per string
  • Clip-on mounting to module frame or M8 rail bolts
  • IP68 housing, 25-year warranty

How it works

TS4-A units are fitted behind standard PV modules and wired in series with them, so a string of modules becomes a string of module-level devices feeding a conventional inverter. The TS4-A-O optimises each module, reports its production and can switch it off. The TS4-A-2F is a pure fire-safety device: one unit serves two modules and keeps their output enabled only while it receives a keep-alive signal.

On the TS4-A-2F the keep-alive signal travels over the DC conductors by power line communication from a Tigo RSS Transmitter, or from an inverter with a built-in Tigo-certified transmitter. When AC power to the transmitter is lost, each unit drops its output to 0.6V and the string falls below 30V within 30 seconds.

Key features

The TS4-A-O handles one module up to 700W with 15A operating and 20A short-circuit current between 16V and 80V, at up to 99.6% efficiency, and communicates wirelessly. The 25A TS4-A-2F has two 80V inputs rated 700W each, 1400W per unit, 20A operating and 25A short-circuit current, 99.9% efficiency and a recommended 30A string fuse, which suits bifacial and high-current modules.

Installation and compatibility

Both units clip onto the module frame or bolt to the rail with M8 bolts at 10.2Nm, cable glands pointing down, and the unit, its cables and connectors must not touch the roof surface. Connect the short input leads to the modules before the output leads. A TS4-A-2F can serve a single module if its second pair of input leads is connected together, and every module in a rapid-shutdown string must be equipped with a TS4-A-F or TS4-A-2F.

The TS4-A-O needs a Tigo Access Point (TAP) and Cloud Connect Advanced (CCA) for monitoring and shutdown. The TS4-A-2F needs an RSS Transmitter on the same AC circuit as the inverter, with a 12V 1A supply; one transmitter handles up to ten strings per core and twenty with two cores, and up to ten transmitters can be grouped.

Monitoring and settings

TS4-A-O systems are commissioned with the Tigo Energy Intelligence (EI) app, which discovers the TAP and units through the CCA and shows module-level production. TS4-A-2F systems carry no monitoring: commissioning consists of checking the unpowered string safety voltage, which should equal 0.6V per unit, then switching on the transmitter.

Questions and answers

Does the TS4-A-2F optimise or monitor modules?

No. It only provides rapid shutdown for two modules; for optimisation or monitoring Tigo offers the TS4-A-O and TS4-A-S.

What does the TS4-A-2F need to work?

A Tigo RSS Transmitter, or an inverter with a built-in Tigo-certified transmitter, powered from the same AC circuit as the inverter. Without the keep-alive signal the units stay in their 0.6V safe state.

Can I use a TS4-A-2F on an odd number of modules?

Yes. Tigo allows a TS4-A-2F on a single module if the unused second pair of input leads is connected together.

What does the TS4-A-O need for monitoring?

A Tigo Cloud Connect Advanced (CCA) with internet access and at least one Tigo Access Point (TAP); one TAP communicates with up to 300 units.
