Overview

Twenty-four 505Wp modules (12.12kWp), the Solis S6-EH3P10K02-NV-YD-L three-phase hybrid inverter and three or four Pytes V5 modules for 15.36 or 20.48kWh. With 220A of battery current, the 10kW inverter is matched by three modules at Pytes' recommended 75A each; the fourth module adds energy rather than power. The array is well below the 16kW usable PV limit, and an Eastron SDM630MCT meter with CTs comes with the inverter for export control. Backup switches over in under 10ms.

How the kits work

Each kit combines a Solis hybrid inverter for 48V batteries, a set of 505Wp PV modules that stays within the inverter's usable PV limit, and one to five Pytes V5 lithium iron phosphate modules connected in parallel. Solar power first supplies the building, then charges the battery, and the surplus is exported or limited where the grid operator requires it. When the grid fails, the inverter's backup port keeps the selected circuits running and switches over in less than 10ms.

The Pytes master module reports state of charge and charge limits to the inverter over CAN, and further modules are daisy-chained through their link ports. Solis lists the Pytes V5°, V5°α and V5°α Plus in its battery matching list for the S6-EH1P-L-PLUS and S6-EH3P K02 series, and its CEI 0-21 declarations for both series cover one to sixteen modules.

Inverter options

Single-phase kits use the S6-EH1P3K, 4.6K or 8K-L-PLUS, or a Solis single-phase 48V hybrid of 3.6, 5 or 6kW; the L-PLUS models have two MPP trackers, a 500V PV limit and battery currents from 70A on the 3kW to 190A on the 8kW model. Three-phase kits use the S6-EH3P8K, 10K, 12K or 15K02-NV-YD-L, which accept 1000V of PV and charge or discharge at 180A, 220A, 250A or 290A over two battery terminal pairs of 150A each.

Sizing the battery

A Pytes V5 module stores 5.12kWh at 51.2V. Pytes recommends 75A per module for charging and discharging and allows 100A continuously, with 101–120A for three minutes. The per-module current stays the same when modules are paralleled, so one module delivers about 3.8kW at the recommended current and two about 7.7kW. When the inverter's battery current is higher than the bank allows, the bank sets the limit, which is why each kit offers a larger storage variant.

Installation and what to add

The Solis inverters are IP66 and can be mounted on outdoor walls. The Pytes V5 is an IP20 module for indoor rooms that charges from 0 to 45°C and discharges from -10 to 50°C, with a heating pad active from -18°C. Up to three modules connect with the supplied cables; larger banks need a busbar or junction box and a DC breaker towards the inverter. The installer adds PV mounting, string cabling, AC breakers and residual-current device, and handles the grid connection paperwork.
