Solis S6-GR1P3K3kW single-phase grid-tied string inverter, 2 MPPT

Overview

The S6-GR1P3K is the 3kW model of the Solis S6-GR1P(2.5-6)K single-phase string inverter series; some suppliers list it as 3K-S6. Two MPP trackers with one 14A string each work from 90V to 520V, with a 600V maximum input, and Solis recommends up to 4.5kW of PV. Maximum AC output is 3.3kVA with 97.3% peak efficiency. The fanless IP66 unit weighs 11.2kg, includes a DC switch and AFCI, and needs a 20A AC protection device according to the manual.

How it works

The S6-GR1P(2.5-6)K is a transformerless single-phase string inverter for grid-connected residential PV systems. It has two MPP trackers with one string each and 14A of input current, so two roof faces with different orientation or tilt can be connected separately. The 3–6kW models work from 90V to 520V with a 120V start-up voltage and a 600V maximum input; the 2.5kW model has a lower 50–450V window.

Solis recommends a PV array of 1.5 times the rated power, for example 4.5kW on the 3kW model and 9kW on the 6kW model. Maximum AC output is up to 10% above rated power on the smaller models. The grid connection is 1/N/PE at 220V or 230V, 50Hz or 60Hz.

Key features

AFCI arc fault detection is built in and needs to be activated during commissioning, and a DC switch is integrated. A multi-peak scan keeps the trackers on the true maximum power point under partial shading. The inverter is cooled by natural convection, with noise below 20dB(A) and night-time consumption under 1W.

With an optional single-phase smart meter the inverter limits the power exported to the grid or monitors household consumption around the clock. Solis builds separate meter and CT hardware versions, so the meter type has to be chosen when ordering.

Installation and compatibility

The IP66 housing measures 310×543×160mm and weighs 11–12kg, and is mounted vertically on a wall able to carry its weight. The manual asks for about 300mm between inverters and other objects and 500mm to the ground. Recommended AC protection ranges from 15A on the 2.5kW to 40A on the 6kW model, and the AC side uses a quick-connection plug.

For Italy, Solis publishes a CEI 0-21 declaration of conformity and certificate for the S6-GR1P(2.5-6)K. EN 50549-1 and VDE-AR-N 4105 certificates are also available; G98 applies to the 2.5–3.6kW models in the UK. The installation chapter of the manual also shows how RCDs are arranged between the consumer mains and the solar supply circuit.

Monitoring and settings

Grid standard, power limits, export management and AFCI are set on the LCD display with four keys. RS485 is standard, and remote monitoring through SolisCloud needs an optional Wi-Fi or GPRS data logging stick on the COM port. Firmware can be updated through the data logger, and the full menu structure is described in the user manual.
