Overview

The S1500-1GMZMBWD is SolarEdge's most powerful commercial optimiser in its long-input version, with 1.8m input leads and a 5.7m plus output lead. Rated 1500W for two modules in series, it supports modules of up to 700W and 20A Isc, takes 20A continuous input and delivers up to 24A. Strings can carry 20,400W continuously on an SE30K and up to 30,400W connected with two or more strings. It is designed for inverters without integrated DC fuses and may not be mixed with other optimisers in a string.

How it works

Commercial S-Series optimisers connect two PV modules in series and track their maximum power point, feeding a string that SolarEdge commercial inverters hold at a fixed voltage. SolarEdge states that this allows strings up to twice as long and 50% fewer cables, fuses and combiner boxes. When the inverter or grid shuts down, each optimiser lowers its output to 1V. Sense Connect monitors the connectors for overheating caused by installation faults or wear.

Key features

All three models accept 125V maximum input voltage, a 12.5–105V MPPT window and modules with up to 20A Isc, at 99.5% peak and 98.8% weighted efficiency. The S1000 is rated 1050W with 18A output, the S1200 1260W with 20A, and the S1500 1500W with 24A output, 20A continuous input and support for 700W modules. Each is available with a 0.1m short input or a long input of 1.3m, 1.6m or 1.8m respectively.

Installation and compatibility

Strings take 14 or 15 optimisers at minimum, depending on the inverter, and 30 at most, with up to 60 modules. Strings on one inverter unit may differ by no more than five optimisers, and at least 11kW of STC power must be connected from SE16K (S1000) or SE20K (S1200, S1500) upwards. The S1200 and S1500 may not be mixed with other optimisers in a string, and the S1000 not with the S1200. The S1500 is meant for inverters without integrated DC fuses.

Mounting and cabling

A single optimiser may serve one module only if the whole string is wired one-to-one or it is the only single-module optimiser in the string. Where two modules in series are joined by an extension cable, the total round-trip length must stay within 16m and the connectors must match the module's. On long-input versions Sense Connect is active on the output connectors only. Maximum altitude is 2000m for the S1000 and S1200 and 3000m for the S1500.
