Huawei SUN2000-5KTL-L15kW single-phase hybrid inverter for LUNA2000 batteries

Overview

The SUN2000-5KTL-L1 is a 5kW single-phase hybrid inverter with 5.5kVA maximum apparent power and up to 7.5kWp of PV recommended by Huawei on two MPP trackers. A LUNA2000 battery charges and discharges at up to 5kW through the 350–560V battery port, and the European efficiency is 97.8%. Backup is added with the SmartGuard-63A-S0 or the Backup Box-B0. Huawei recommends a 32A single-phase AC breaker; maximum output current is 25A, and the IP65 unit weighs 12kg.

How it works

The SUN2000-KTL-L1 is a compact single-phase Smart Energy Controller for 220–240V homes. It converts PV power on two MPP trackers, one string each, with 12.5A per tracker, a 100V start-up voltage and a 90–560V operating range below the 600V maximum input. A LUNA2000-5/10/15-S0 or LUNA2000-S1 battery connects directly to the DC battery port, which works at 350–560V and charges at up to 5kW.

Discharge power follows the inverter size, from 2.2kW on the 2KTL to 5kW on the 5KTL and 6KTL, and the battery can also be charged from the grid. For backup, the official specification lists the Backup Box-B0 and the SmartGuard-63A-S0; with one of them and a battery, the system keeps supplying the home when the grid fails.

Installation and compatibility

Huawei recommends a single-phase AC breaker rated 250V or more: 16A for the 2KTL, 25A for the 3KTL and 3.68KTL and 32A for the 4KTL to 6KTL. An external residual current device, where fitted, must be rated 100mA or more per inverter. With LUNA2000 batteries the manual specifies the DDSU666-H or DTSU666-H power meter, and up to three inverters can be cascaded, including with SUN2000-KTL-M1 units.

The inverter weighs 12kg with its bracket, measures 365×375×156mm and is rated IP65 with natural convection cooling; rated output is available up to 45°C ambient, with derating above that up to 60°C. AFCI arc-fault protection, insulation monitoring and residual current monitoring are built in. SUN2000-450W-P2 and SUN2000-600W-P optimisers can be added, and with all modules optimised Huawei allows up to 10kWp on long strings.

Monitoring and settings

Built-in WLAN connects the inverter to the FusionSolar app for commissioning, monitoring and battery settings, RS485 links meters and batteries, and Ethernet or 4G are added through the Smart Dongle-WLAN-FE or Smart Dongle-4G. Night-time consumption is under 2.5W. Listed grid codes include CEI 0-21, VDE-AR-N 4105, EN 50549-1, C10/11, G98, G99 and RD 1699.
