Huawei SUN2000-40KTL-M340kW three-phase string inverter, 4 MPPT

Overview

The SUN2000-40KTL-M3 is the largest model of the M3 series, rated 40kW with 44kVA maximum apparent power, 57.8A rated and 63.8A maximum output current. Four MPP trackers with eight inputs accept 27A per tracker and 40A short-circuit current at up to 1,100V, at 98.7% maximum and 98.4% European efficiency. Huawei recommends a 100A three-phase AC breaker rated at 500V or more. The datasheet lists CEI 0-21, CEI 0-16 and VDE-AR-N 4105 among its grid codes.

How it works

The SUN2000-M3 series covers 30 to 40kW for commercial roofs and small businesses. Eight string inputs feed four MPP trackers, each accepting 27A (20A per input) and 40A short-circuit current, over a 200–1,000V operating range with 600V rated input and 1,100V maximum input voltage. The inverters connect to 230/400V or 480V three-phase grids, three-wire or with neutral, and reach 98.7% maximum and 98.4% European efficiency in all three sizes.

Cooling is by natural convection, so there are no fans to service; the 640×530×270mm housing weighs 43kg. Integrated PID recovery raises the potential between PV- and earth to reverse potential-induced degradation; Huawei states this for P-type modules, and the function is disabled by default until set in the app. A ripple receiver control input is also provided for grid operators that require it.

Optimisers and safety

The DC MBUS accepts SUN2000-450W-P2, SUN2000-600W-P, MERC-1100W-P and MERC-1300W-P optimisers, but the SUN2000 and MERC families cannot be combined on one inverter, and a string may hold at most 25 optimisers. With an optimiser on every module, rapid shutdown brings optimiser output below 30V within 30s, triggered by the AC switch, the DC switch or a button on the DIN5 input; partial optimiser configurations do not support it. AFCI arc detection is integrated.

Installation and compatibility

Mount the inverter vertically or with up to 15° back tilt; side-by-side or triangle layouts are recommended and stacking is not. Huawei recommends a three-phase AC circuit breaker of at least 500V AC: 63A for the 30KTL-M3 and 100A for the 36KTL-M3 and 40KTL-M3. If the AC switch includes earth-leakage protection, its rated tripping current must be at least 300mA per inverter. TN-S, TN-C, TN-C-S, TT and IT systems are supported, and DC connectors are Amphenol Helios H4.

Monitoring and settings

Integrated WLAN links the inverter to the FusionSolar app for commissioning. For permanent monitoring, the Smart Dongle-WLAN-FE adds WLAN or Ethernet and the Smart Dongle-4G adds mobile data, while RS485 connects a SmartLogger3000 in larger plants. Huawei DTSU666-H, DTSU666-HW, YDS60-80 and YDS60-C24 meters can be used at the grid connection point. Listed grid codes include CEI 0-21, CEI 0-16, VDE-AR-N 4105, UTE C 15-712-1, RD 1699 and C10/11.
