Huawei SUN2000-12K-MB012kW three-phase hybrid inverter for LUNA2000 HV batteries

Overview

The SUN2000-12K-MB0 is the entry size of the MB0 range: 12kW rated and 13.2kVA maximum output on a three-phase grid, with a Huawei-recommended PV array of up to 18kWp spread over two MPP trackers. Full-load tracking starts at 370V. It discharges a LUNA2000 battery at up to 13.2kW and charges at up to 25kW when two battery strings are connected. Huawei recommends a 40A three-phase breaker for on-grid use and 50A or 63A when on/off-grid operation is configured.

How it works

The SUN2000-MB0 is the largest residential three-phase Smart Energy Controller in the Huawei range: one unit converts PV power, charges and discharges a high-voltage battery and feeds a 230/400V three-phase grid. Two MPP trackers each take two strings, with 30A per tracker when two strings are paralleled and 20A on a single string, over a 200–1000V operating range and 1100V maximum input voltage.

Two independent battery terminals accept LUNA2000-5/10/15-S0 and LUNA2000-7/14/21-S1 systems working at 600–980V. Each terminal takes up to two battery systems, so one inverter can manage four. Charging reaches 21kW on one battery string and 25kW on two, while discharge power follows the model's apparent power, from 13.2kW on the 12K to 25kW on the 25K.

Installation and compatibility

Huawei recommends a three-phase AC breaker rated at 415V or more: 40A for the 12K to 20K and 50A or 63A for the 25K in on-grid use, and 50A or 63A for every size when on/off-grid operation is configured. An external residual current device, where fitted, must be rated at 300mA or more per inverter. TN-S, TN-C, TN-C-S, TT and IT earthing systems are supported, and the unit is mounted vertically or with up to 15° back tilt.

Export limitation needs a Huawei power meter such as the DTSU666-HW, YDS60-80 or DTSU71; with more than two batteries on a master MB0 the DTSU666-H is not supported and EMMA networking is recommended. Up to three inverters can be cascaded, with six batteries via Smart Dongle or twelve via EMMA. The SUN2000 and MERC optimiser families cannot be mixed on one inverter.

Monitoring and settings

Commissioning and monitoring run through the integrated WLAN and the FusionSolar app; Ethernet or 4G are added with the Smart Dongle-WLAN-FE or Smart Dongle-4G. In the app the installer sets grid-tied point control, battery working modes such as maximum self-consumption or time-of-use, and capacity control to cap peak grid import. With optimisers on every module, rapid shutdown brings string voltage below 30V within 30s.
