Fronius Verto 20.020kW three-phase string inverter with 3 MPPT

Overview

The Verto 20.0 (item 4,210,424) is the 20kW model of the compact Verto range, feeding three-phase grids from 380V to 480V. Three 28A trackers with four MC4 inputs accept up to 30kWp of PV and deliver full power from 275V MPP voltage. Maximum efficiency is 98.56% and European efficiency 98.33%. DC type 1+2 and AC type 2 surge protection, Fronius Arc Guard and an RCMU are built in, and Fronius recommends a 40A AC fuse, 63A maximum.

How it works

This Verto generation puts 15 to 25kW into a 730×540×278mm housing weighing 35.2kg, smaller and lighter than the 27.0–33.3kW Verto. It is a grid-tied inverter without battery input. Three MPP trackers each accept 28A and 50A short-circuit current; the first has two MC4 inputs and the other two one each, so up to four strings connect directly without a combiner box.

The MPP window spans 150–870V within a 1,000V maximum, with feed-in from 150V. Full power is available from 210V on the 15.0, 245V on the 17.5 and 275V on the 20.0. These three models accept 380V, 400V, 440V and 480V three-phase grids, while the 25.0 400 is built for 3~(N)PE 400/230V only.

Key features

Maximum efficiency reaches 98.53–98.56% and European efficiency 98.19–98.35%. Surge protection is integrated as type 1+2 on the DC side to IEC 61643-31 and type 2 on the AC side, and Fronius names CITEL type 1+2 devices for upgrading the AC arrester. Fronius Arc Guard to IEC 63027, an RCMU, insulation monitoring and reverse polarity protection are built in; Arc Guard is disabled on delivery and is enabled in the settings where required.

Installation and compatibility

Fronius recommends 32A AC protection for the 15.0, 40A for the 17.5 and 20.0 and 50A for the 25.0 400, with 63A as the maximum. Where a residual current device is needed, type A is generally sufficient; Fronius recommends a frequency-inverter type with at least 100mA. AC cables of 4–35mm² in aluminium or copper enter through an M32 gland. The unit mounts on a wall, post or flat surface at 90° to 10° tilt, never with the connection area facing up or on a ceiling.

Monitoring and settings

The integrated data logger and web server connect to Fronius Solar.web via WLAN or two Ethernet ports, while Modbus TCP and JSON give access to SCADA and energy management systems. Two RS485 ports serve Modbus RTU SunSpec and the Fronius Smart Meter, which is needed for dynamic feed-in limitation down to zero. Six inputs and six digital I/Os handle ripple control receivers, wired shutdown is integrated, and the Fronius Solar.start app guides commissioning. Ohmpilot and Wattpilot can be integrated.
