Fronius Symo GEN24 6.0 Plus SC6kW three-phase hybrid inverter with Full Backup, SC generation

Overview

The Symo GEN24 6.0 Plus SC is a 6kW three-phase hybrid inverter of the SC generation, with a 28A first tracker and a 14A second tracker accepting up to 9kWp of PV. Arc Guard arc detection is integrated, and the 160–700V, 22A battery input handles up to 6,220W of charge and discharge power. With external switchover it supplies three-phase Full Backup at 6,000VA, up to 4,225VA per phase. Recommended AC protection is 16A.

How it works

The SC generation of the Symo GEN24 is a transformerless three-phase inverter for 400/230V and 380/220V grids, offered as 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, 6.0, 8.0, 10.0 and 12.0kW. The SC version supplies the building and grid with PV Point backup; the Plus SC adds a DC-coupled high-voltage battery input. On SC versions without Plus, battery support is optional through Fronius UP.

PV Point provides a single-phase 3kVA circuit about 15s after a grid failure. On the 6.0–12.0 Plus SC, Full Backup supplies three phases at full rated power with up to 4,225VA per phase and a switching time of about 10s, once external switchover components such as the Fronius Backup Controller are installed. The 3.0–5.0 Plus SC offer PV Point as their backup function.

Key features

Compared with the earlier Symo GEN24, the trackers take 14A each on the 3.0–5.0 and 28A plus 14A on the 6.0–12.0, the 12.0 accepts up to 18kWp of PV, and Arc Guard arc detection is built in. Maximum efficiency is 98.1% in the small housing and up to 98.3% in the large one. Battery charge and discharge power reaches 11,682W on the 12.0 Plus SC.

Installation and compatibility

Fronius approves Reserva 6.3–15.8kWh, Reserva Pro 12.0–32.0kWh, BYD Battery-Box HVS/HVS+ 5.1–12.8kWh, HVM/HVM+ 11.0–22.1kWh and LG FLEX 8.6–17.2kWh, subject to national certification; HVS 12.8kWh is not approved for Italy. Up to four Reserva systems or three BYD systems of equal capacity can be paralleled. The 6.0–12.0 Plus SC can also coordinate Parallel Backup with other Fronius inverters.

Protect the AC output with an automatic circuit breaker of no more than 32A; recommended values are 10A, 13A and 16A for the 3.0–5.0, and 16A, 25A, 32A and 32A for the 6.0, 8.0, 10.0 and 12.0. A type A RCD is normally sufficient where one is required. The small housing measures 530×474×165mm (15.3kg), the large one 595×529×180mm (22.8kg).

Monitoring and settings

Each inverter has an integrated datalogger and web server with WLAN and two Ethernet ports for Fronius Solar.web, configured through the Fronius Solar.start app or a browser. Modbus TCP SunSpec and the Fronius Solar API (JSON) support third-party energy managers. Two RS485 ports serve the Fronius Smart Meter, battery and Ohmpilot, and 6 digital inputs plus 6 inputs/outputs handle ripple control and load management.
