Overview

SUN-5K-SG04LP3-EU is the 5kW entry model of Deye's SG04LP3 three-phase hybrid series, rated 5kW and 5.5kVA on a 230/400V supply. It works with 48V lead-acid or lithium batteries at up to 120A of charge and discharge current. Two MPP trackers, one string each at up to 13A and 800V, accept up to 10kW of PV access power and 7.5kW of input power. Backup output with fully unbalanced loads, a generator or AC-coupling port and parallel operation of up to 10 units suit three-phase homes adding low-voltage storage.

  • 5–12kW three-phase, 48V battery (40–60V)
  • 120–240A battery charge and discharge current
  • 2 MPPT, 800V max., 200–650V tracking range
  • 100% unbalanced output, 50% per phase
  • Up to 10 units in parallel, on- or off-grid
  • CEI 0-21, EN 50549, VDE-AR-N 4105 listed

How it works

The SG04LP3-EU series is Deye's earlier generation of three-phase hybrid inverters for 48V storage. One IP65 enclosure links PV, a lead-acid or lithium-ion battery of 40–60V, the 230/400V grid, a backup load circuit and a generator. The battery side is isolated by a transformer while the PV side is transformerless. Battery current rises with size from 120A on the 5kW model to 240A on the 12kW model, and with lithium batteries charging follows the BMS over CAN or RS485.

Two MPP trackers accept up to 800V, start at 160V and track between 200 and 650V. The 5, 6 and 8kW models take one string per tracker at 13A; the 10 and 12kW models take two strings on the first tracker (26A) and one on the second (13A). Off-grid the inverter delivers twice its rated power for 10 seconds, and each phase can carry up to half the rated power.

Key features

Six time-of-use periods control when the battery charges and discharges. The work modes are Selling First, Zero Export to Load and Zero Export to CT, with an optional grid peak-shaving limit. The GEN port can be set as a generator input with start contact, as a smart load output switched by battery SOC or voltage, or as an AC-coupling input for existing on-grid inverters on the grid or load side. Up to 10 units operate in parallel, on-grid or off-grid.

Installation and compatibility

The 38kg inverter (422×658×254mm) mounts on a vertical, load-bearing, non-flammable wall at eye level, at up to 2000m, with about 50cm free at the sides, above and below and 100cm in front. Deye recommends 63A AC breakers on the grid and load ports, 35mm² battery cable with a separate DC overcurrent device, and 2.5mm² PV cable. An external type A RCD, if required locally, must trip at 300mA or more.

Three CT clamps are supplied for export control; a CHNT DTSU666 or Eastron SDM630-Modbus V2 three-phase meter on the Meter-485 port is an option. Parallel systems must run in Zero Export to CT mode. The datasheet lists IEC 61727, IEC 62116, CEI 0-21, EN 50549, NRS 097, RD 140, UNE 217002, OVE-Richtlinie R25, G99 and VDE-AR-N 4105. Deye's download centre marks the series as discontinued.

Monitoring and settings

Battery type and limits, time-of-use, work mode, grid standard, GEN port use and parallel addressing are set from the LCD and function buttons. Remote monitoring in Deye Cloud uses the optional Wi-Fi plug or a data logger; the manual also lists GPRS, Bluetooth, 4G and LAN logger options. Interfaces include RS485, CAN, Modbus and a DRM port. The warranty is 5 years, extendable to 10 years depending on the installation country.

Questions and answers

Which batteries can be used?

Lead-acid or lithium-ion batteries in the 40–60V range. With lithium batteries the inverter adapts charging to the BMS, which communicates over CAN or RS485.

How many strings can I connect?

The 5, 6 and 8kW models take one string on each of the two trackers. The 10 and 12kW models take two strings on the first tracker and one on the second.

Is a meter needed for zero export?

No. Three CT clamps are supplied; a CHNT DTSU666 or Eastron SDM630-Modbus V2 meter can be used instead on the Meter-485 port.

Can several inverters be combined?

Yes, up to 10 units can run in parallel on-grid or off-grid. Deye requires the Zero Export to CT work mode for parallel systems.
